THREAT OF RAIN DOES LITTLE TO DAMPEN CORPORATE SPIRIT

Saturday, 3 November 2007 – Dark rain clouds did little to dampen the atmosphere at this morning’s OSIM Corporate Triathlon 2007 as more than 300 corporations turned up in full force at the East Coast Park in the name of fun, fitness, and corporate spirit.

The event saw over 1,650 participants swim, bike, and sprint their way to the finish line, and team spirit was the essence of the day as companies braved the drizzle in support of their team mates. Crossing the line was victory enough for most as they notched yet another point towards their company’s Overall Challenge Trophy tally. Those that weren’t participating in the race itself did their part from the sidelines with roaring cheers and coordinated outfits in their company’s corporate colours.

Defending champions Nike South East Asia took home the coveted Overall Challenge Trophy again this year, making it the second straight time that the company has won the title since OSIM’s title sponsorship in 2006.

Triathlon Association of Singapore (TAS) Race Chairman Mark Tay was visibly pleased with the turnout.

“I’m very happy with the participation rate today,” he said. “The event ran very smoothly and there was a good mix of companies taking part. Sporting events have increasingly replaced Family Days within the office, and it is a great sign that many have turned to sport as a way to foster team spirit and gel the corporation together. The experience of running a triathlon together cultivates a strong bond, and any company that competes in an event like this takes away not just the experience but also the camaraderie and teamwork that goes with it.”

Ron Sim, CEO of OSIM International, is confident that the event will continue to inspire corporations to get together in the name of sport.

“Today’s event was a fantastic opportunity for corporations to bring their entire staff together and have fun and promote fitness all at the same time. There is a corporate responsibility to encourage everyone to adopt a healthy lifestyle, and it is not only beneficial to the company but also a fun day out for their families as well.”

“We have had bigger teams participate this year, and although it is no surprise that Nike South East Asia won the overall trophy again this year, perhaps we will have a team able to give them a run for their money next year!”
